Mike Hackett

ike Hackett is both Managing Director and Acquisitions Manager of Compass Property Investments Limited; a dual role that he handles with consumate ease.

Originally from the UK, he lays claim to a 37-year marriage, three grown-up children and three grand-children - with many more to come.

After managing 'people and product' for more than 20 years, Mike saw an opportunity in the late 1990's to pilot a brand new investment concept in the property industry.

It didn't just involve a "paradigm shift" in the way property was marketed; it literally took the concept of owning investment property to an entirely new level.

The concept became known as fully managed, long term, rent guaranteed investment property.

No longer would property investors have to fear the fallout from tenants "trashing" properties and then fleeing without giving notice.

Never again would a landlord find him or herself struggling to pay the mortgage each month because the tenants had fallen behind with the rent.

No more having to drive over to their rental property in the wee hours of the morning to attend to a blocked toilet, leaking dishwasher, faulty hot-water cylinder or malfunctioning garage door-opener.

This was a revolutionary idea in the investment property world and one that was "near and dear" to Mike's heart. Both he and Sharon - his wife - had been property investors since 1993... and if they'd had the opportunity to own fully managed, rent guaranted property back then they would've embraced it with open arms!

As it happened, Mike and Sharon 'fell victim' to the same unscrupulous antics by tenants that they themselves now go to great lengths to protect their own investment clients from!

After 4 years of managing and growing the "rent guaranteed investment property" concept for the directors of the company he was working for, Mike decided that... IT WAS TIME - TIME to do it bigger and better than anyone else. TIME to offer even safer, even more diverse "guaranteed rental" options.

Hence the birth of Compass Property Investments Limited in January 2006.

Today, almost two years on, Mike has taken the company from its humble beginnings in Triton Place, Albany, to a multi-faceted property investment company with soon-to-be-announced offshore interests in Australia, Malaysia and India.

Perhaps his greatest strength is his inherent ability to source outstanding properties in high growth areas and offer them at very generous prices to his clients - just one of the reasons why so many Compass clients come back for a second or even third property, so quickly.

Mike's favourite sports are golf and football (yes, I know we say "soccer"... but hey, he hailed from pommie-land once upon a time and he "is" the boss, afterall).

He also loves going to the gym and when time permits, he loves nothing more than kicking back with a good book, going to the gym, and reading.

Even though Mike and family moved up to Auckland from Wellington over 17 years ago, he - Mr Mike Hackett - still has this absurd, pointless obsession with the "Hurricanes"...
